Mihkel Ilus
Mihkel Ilus (1987) is an Estonian painting and installation artist who has also interwoven performance art and the relationship between the white cube and the black box in his work. Ilus’s work is characterised by a constant will to create and break rules and a manipulation of the medium. A seemingly simple execution is contrasted with a thoughtful and profound concept. Most liked materials have been building materials such as plasterboard, wood and various shades of white for colour.
Mihkel Ilus holds a BA in Painting from the University of Tartu and an MA in Liberal Arts from the Estonian Academy of Arts. Since 2011 he has been a guest lecturer, master and lecturer at the latter.
In 2023, Mihkel Ilus’s exhibition “Give up, and leave all behind
“ was held at Artrovert Gallery.
