This is a plaster copy of the sculpture “The Last Sigh of the Ship” (EKM deposit, marble 1926) by A. Adamson. The plaster copy is part of the work “Paldiski Project” 2006-2013 by the artist collective Johnson and Johnson (Indrek Köster and Taavi Talve). The molds used to make the copy were taken directly from the original owned by the Art Museum of Estonia, which is why it is a truly high-quality copy. The work was done by Isabel Aaso, sculpture conservator at the Art Museum of Estonia, in 2009. No more copies of the original have been made.
The plaster copy was made for the art collective’s “Paldiski Project”. Based on it, sculptors Mare Mikof and Rene Reinumäe modeled an enlarged public space sculpture, which was unveiled as the finale of the “Paldiski Project” in the center of Paldiski on October 19, 2013. More information about the project and the importance of the work in Estonian art history can be found in the 2013-4 issue of the kunst.ee magazine here: https://www.e-kunst.ee/issues/2013-4-et/.
From 2023, the documentation of the “Paldiski Project” is part of the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia.
