QBA

QBA, or Martin Kaares (b. 1980), lives and works in Tallinn. He graduated from the Estonian University of the Arts with a BA in Scenography. Instead of doing theater, however, he started painting.
Over the past 15 years, he has had dozens of solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 25 local and international group exhibitions. QBA is a member of both the Painters’ Union and the Artists’ Union. Perhaps his greatest achievement in recent years is the Grand Prize won at the Jurmala Sea Painting Biennial in 2019, which also included a grand solo exhibition at the Jurmala City Museum in the summer of 2022.

Martin has been in art school since first grade and has been involved with art all his life. The name QBA comes from his adolescence, when Martin was still actively involved in graffiti.
There are influences from those times to this day – bright colors and powerful, wire-like outlines.
Nowadays, where he mostly uses acrylic and canvas instead of aerosol cans, he still loves to feel the electricity of this whole special working process.
