Maria-Kristiina Ulas
Maria-Kristina Ulas (1965) is a graphic artist based in Tallinn, known for her vibrant compositions where mythology and charged figuration create a playful and imaginative visual world. Her work is characterized by layered symbolism, dynamic forms, and a richly expressive use of color.
Born into a family of printmakers in Tallinn, Ulas graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1991 with a degree in graphic art. She has been active on the art scene since 1988, presenting nearly twenty solo exhibitions and participating in numerous group shows both in Estonia and internationally.
In addition to her artistic practice, Ulas has taught for many years at the Estonian Academy of Arts and has led various courses elsewhere. She is a member of the Estonian Artists’ Association and the Association of Estonian Printmakers, and was also part of the New Graphic Group from 1989 to 1993.
Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the Kristjan Raud Art Prize (1992), the G-Gallery Art Prize (2002), and an award at the 12th Asian Art Biennial (2006). Maria-Kristina Ulas’s artworks can be found in public collections such as the Art Museum of Estonia and the Tartu Art Museum.
In 2025, Maria-Kristina Ulas presents her solo exhibition FLOATING PERCEIVING SENSING at Artrovert Gallery.
