Jaanika Peerna
Jaanika Peerna (b. 1971) is an Estonian-born artist who has lived and worked in New York and Tallinn since 1998, now located in Lisbon. Her practice includes drawing, installation, and performance, often focusing on transitions in light, air, water, and other natural phenomena. In her performances, she frequently invites the audience to reflect on the climate crisis and environmental change. Her art grows out of bodily experience and seeks to deepen awareness of the fragility, interconnectedness, and singular beauty of all life.
Peerna has exhibited and performed widely in the New York metropolitan area as well as in Berlin, Paris, Tallinn, Barcelona, Venice, Dubai, Sydney, Montreal, and Cologne. The latest significant solo exhibitions took place in 2025-2026 at the KF Gallery in South Korea, and in 2026 at the ARS Grand Hall.
Her works are held in numerous private collections in the United States and Europe, as well as in the French national contemporary art collection. Her performance Glacier Elegy is part of the collection of the Glyn Vivian Museum in the United Kingdom. Peerna is represented by several galleries in the US and Estonia, received the FID Grand Prize for drawing in 2016, and in 2022 a monograph on her work, Glacier Elegies, was published.
